Jeffrey McEvoy began his professional career in 1973 with the national accounting firm Arthur Young & Co. (now Ernst & Young) and The Pennsylvania Company. From 1982 until 1991, he practiced as a corporate and tax attorney with two of the largest law firms in the mid Atlantic region. It was with one of those firms that Jeffrey came to Frederick in 1991 to advise a group of Frederick’s principal business leaders in the formation and public stock offering of The First Bank of Frederick. He stayed in Frederick after First Bank began, and formed the law firm that is now known as McEvoy & Dean, a firm which is known for offering the highest level of corporate, real estate, estate and business litigation services in Frederick County and throughout central and western Maryland. Experience With over 25 years as a business attorney and counselor, Jeffrey McEvoy is adept at handling the corporate, business and tax issues of individuals and business owners, with extensive experience in commercial financing, lease negotiations, real estate transactions and personal and corporate tax planning. He has been principal counsel in taking several companies public. He has worked closely with the senior lending officers of most of the community and regional bank in central Maryland, as well as insurance professionals, accountants, developers, engineers, architects and other real estate professionals in Frederick County.
Among the projects and practice areas Mr. McEvoy has worked on are: Assisting in starting and advising numerous businesses, some of which have grown to be significant competitors in their line of business, such as one of the largest fast food franchisor/operators in Maryland, and two of the largest construction equipment leasing and sales companies in Maryland. Advising health care providers in central and western Maryland, ranging from solo practices to large group specialty practices. Jeffrey has developed a special interest in veterinary practices. He has helped organize and raise capital for three large specialty hospitals including, the largest and oldest veterinary emergency care hospital in Maryland. He is currently cousel for numerous general practice veterinary hospitals. Serving as advisor to several clients in the disposition of their closely held businesses which the firm helped start and counseled through many years of growth resulting in significant personal wealth for the owners. He has also been advisor to other clients in corporate acquisitions, taking them from small local operators to positions as major competitions in their markets. Assisting many clients with commercial real estate projects. One such project has two buildings, a 60,000 square foot Class A office building, and a 10,000 square foot Class B office building, the largest and most sophisticated of its kind in Frederick County. Jeffrey advised his client on land acquisition, commercial financing, building construction, sales and leasing. Both buildings are fully leased to credit tenants. Providing tax, estate planning and family succession advice to the firm’s closely held and family business clients. Jeffrey has advised high net worth clients with significant business holdings on estate planning. Those plans involve estate tax planning, life insurance trusts, family trusts and partnerships and family succession plans. Jeffrey has overseen the administration of complex, high net worth estates, many involving litigation and difficult and unique issues. In each of these cases Jeffrey and the firm were able to thread their way through the financial, tax and family issues to a successful conclusion which provided for realization of maximum asset value and resolution of the competing interests in the estate.
